French President Macron said that social media platforms defending themselves with freedom of speech is "complete nonsense", countering a key foreign policy goal of Trump. European countries like the UK and Germany are considering banning minors from using social media, with regulators saying these services are harmful and addictive. This could impact the key advertising revenue of companies like Meta Platforms Inc.'s Instagram and Facebook, Snap Inc., Musk's X, TikTok, and Google's YouTube. Macron said in New Delhi on Wednesday, "The consequences of such bias, where people are led without any understanding of how algorithms are designed, tested, and trained, and where they will lead you, could be enormous." He also said, "Some claim to support freedom of speech - well, we support algorithmic freedom, that is, completely transparent algorithms. If no one knows how you are guided to so-called freedom of speech, especially in the case of being guided from one hate speech to another, the so-called freedom of speech is utter nonsense."
