Due to corruption controversy, European airlines are calling for the abolishment of an aviation agreement with Qatar.
Several European airlines are calling on the European Commission to abolish an aviation agreement signed with Qatar, citing the dismissal of a senior EU official responsible for the negotiation of the agreement due to corruption allegations. In a letter addressed to the President of the European Commission, CEOs of Lufthansa Group, Air France-KLM Group, and Nordic Aviation Group jointly expressed their "unresolved concerns" about the "Open Skies" agreement. The European Commission dismissed former Director-General of Transport Henrik Hololei last month following an investigation into allegations of misconduct. The airline executives wrote in their letter dated February 6, "As long as issues such as corruption, improper influence, and conflicts of interest remain unresolved, the agreement cannot continue to exist unaffected."
