The die-hard short sellers on Wall Street believe that the IPOs of big names like OpenAI and SpaceX this year may weigh down the stock market.
Grantham is the co-founder of the investment company GMO based in Boston. For more than a decade, he has been bearish on the U.S. stock market, but so far, he has been wrong. "My prediction is that the IPO market in 2026 will witness a frenzy that we haven't seen in a while. I guess that at least two of the giant companies not yet listed will go public, which may put pressure on the U.S. market later this year.... After the IPO, the initial market may rise, but in the longer term, as more shareholders are able to cash out their holdings, this will pose a challenge to the U.S. market."
