The American court has ordered DTE Energy Company to pay $100 million for violating the Clean Air Act.
The US Department of Justice said on Tuesday that a coal plant in Zug Island, Michigan violated regulations and a US court ordered utility company DTE Energy and its subsidiaries to pay $100 million and comply with the Clean Air Act. The US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan stated in a press release that they must apply for a permit within 250 days under the New Source Review program of the Clean Air Act, including strict pollution control recommendations. DTE Energy stated that they will appeal the ruling. A company spokesperson said in a statement, "We remain committed to operating in compliance and have been operating within the effective original state permits - both now and during the relevant period."
