Peru's President Vizcarra faces impeachment by Congress.
The Peruvian Congress held a special plenary session on the 17th, voting to impeach President Jos Herri and remove him from office. During the meeting, the Peruvian Congress passed the impeachment motion with a vote of 75 in favor, 24 against, and 3 abstentions. The Acting President of the Congress, Fernando Rospigliosi, announced that a congress president election would be held on the 18th to confirm the person to succeed the presidency. The Peruvian Congress has a total of 130 seats, and according to the law, an impeachment motion requires at least 87 members' support to pass. However, as Herri assumed the presidency as the Congress President, only a majority vote is needed to simultaneously remove him from both positions.
