On the first day of the holiday, the number of hotel guests over 60 years old increased by 60%, with parents from different regions flooding into Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen for a "reverse Spring Festival."
February 15th is the first day of the "longest Spring Festival holiday" and the "Little New Year's Eve" in the Year of the Horse. On this day, many people are heading home from the city where they work, while a group of travelers born in the 1960s and 1970s have already arrived in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen to reunite with their children. Data from Qunar Travel shows that February 15th is the peak day for hotel stays for travelers over the age of 60, with a 60% increase in occupancy compared to the previous day, and a 54% increase compared to the first day of the Spring Festival holiday in 2025. Letting parents come to the big cities for a "reverse New Year's celebration" saves on airfare expenses, allowing them to stay in hotels, visit tourist attractions, and go on road trips. This wave of "reverse New Year" tourists has also made the Spring Festival in big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen no longer quiet, and the tourism consumption market is more vibrant than in previous years.
