Fusion startup Helion achieves "1.5 billion degrees Celsius" milestone, aiming for commercial electricity production by 2028.
The American fusion energy startup company Helion announced that its seventh generation prototype Polaris has successfully heated plasma to 150 million degrees Celsius, reaching approximately three-quarters of the temperature threshold required for commercial fusion power generation; this development provides key technical validation for its goal to supply fusion power to Microsoft by 2028. In 2023, Helion signed an agreement with Microsoft to provide power to the tech giant through its first 50-megawatt fusion power plant Orion by 2028. Most fusion companies are not expected to commercialize until after 2030.
