According to reports from media such as CNN and Consumer News and Business Channel, Catherine Rumler, the chief legal officer of Goldman Sachs, announced on the evening of the 12th local time that she would be resigning from Goldman Sachs at the end of June. Recently, a batch of documents released by the US Department of Justice detailed multiple intimate communications between Rumler and the late American businessman Jeffrey Epstein. Goldman Sachs had been defending Rumler for several months. CNBC reported that Rumler said in a statement, "Earlier today, I regretfully informed Sue Wagner that I plan to step down from my role as Goldman Sachs Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel on June 30, 2026." On the other hand, Wagner stated in a separate statement that she has accepted Rumler's resignation and respects her decision. The documents previously released by the US Department of Justice revealed that Rumler had accepted expensive gifts from Epstein before joining Goldman Sachs, and had provided advice to him in response to media inquiries regarding his sexual crimes, while Epstein had offered strategic advice to Rumler in seeking high-level positions at companies like Facebook. Rumler had previously served as White House Counsel during the Obama administration and joined Goldman Sachs in 2020.
