After 8 years of silence, the Yangtze River shoreline in Qinshan, Wuhan will become lively again. According to the news from Qinshan District on February 9th, Qinshan Shipyard has completed the transfer of shares and assets signing with China Merchants Group earlier this month. It will rely on the full industry chain resources of China Merchants Group to focus on the manufacturing of medium and small-sized, high value-added ships, and simultaneously promote the construction of a "garden factory" to resume shipbuilding capacity this year. Qinshan Shipyard, originating from the repair factory of China Merchants Group's Hankou branch established in July 1950, relocated to Qinshan in 1960 and was one of the first enterprises to be selected for the National Shipbuilding "white list". The factory was once the largest civilian ship manufacturing factory in Hubei, having built a total of 630 ships in 69 years, including 218 export ships. It was renowned as the "best chemical tanker shipyard in China" and had achieved many industry firsts. In particular, after 2008, the factory mass-produced 57,000-ton bulk carriers, breaking records for the largest tonnage in Central China and the largest tonnage launched sideways in the world.
