The European Union has approved Google's acquisition of the cybersecurity startup Wiz, with a transaction size of $3.2 billion. This is the largest acquisition in Google's history and a victory for the company. The EU's executive body, the European Commission, stated on Tuesday that the deal is unlikely to affect market competition within the EU region. Regulators have noted that if Google bundles Wiz's security platform with its existing products or makes the Wiz platform incompatible with cloud services from Google's competitors, customers can still turn to other strong competitors for services. Google announced this all-cash transaction in March 2025, betting on integrating Wiz into its cloud business to accelerate its cloud security capabilities and strengthen its multi-cloud deployment capabilities - both trends that are accelerating in the age of artificial intelligence. Wiz provides cybersecurity software for cloud computing, with operations in New York, Arlington, Virginia, London, and Tel Aviv. The deal was approved by the US antitrust agency in November last year and submitted to the EU for review by the merger control authorities in January this year.
