Wang Yi discusses key work for APEC "China Year"
On February 10, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the opening ceremony of the first APEC Senior Officials' Meeting for 2026 in Guangzhou. Wang Yi stated that China has set "Building the Asia-Pacific Community and Promoting Common Prosperity" as the theme for this year's meeting, which continues the important principles of APEC and also seeks to push Asia-Pacific cooperation to a new level.
Looking ahead to 2026, we will focus on promoting the following key areas:
- Establishing "One Goal": Reaffirming the original intention of Asia-Pacific cooperation, focusing on the future development of APEC, and pushing for a clear and substantive outcome document at this year's leaders' meeting.
- Exploring "Two Paths": Strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, regulation, and supply chain to promote the alignment and integration of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and expanding the pathway for building the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area.
- Accelerating "Three Transformations": Promoting digitalization, intelligence, and green transformation through innovation as the new growth points for APEC member economies and the necessary path for achieving sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Additionally, it is crucial to deepen cooperation in various sectors to address issues related to governance, such as corruption, finance, transportation, tourism, public health, aging populations, and food security. Enhancing exchanges and interactions between small and medium enterprises, human resources, women, youth, and media among member economies to facilitate people-to-people exchanges and strengthen cultural ties.
