According to the US Daily Science website, three institutions, including the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, are jointly launching a cutting-edge clinical trial. They will test a new type of stem cell therapy on 12 patients with moderate to severe Parkinson's disease by implanting laboratory-cultured dopamine-producing cells into the brain to restore the brain's ability to produce dopamine naturally, in hopes of slowing the progression of Parkinson's disease and improving patients' motor function.
