African swine fever outbreak in Cape Verde.
Ana Irina Orlenda, Director of the Livestock Services Bureau of Cape Verde, announced on the 6th in the capital city of Praia that an outbreak of African swine fever has occurred on the island of So Nicolau in the country. Orlenda stated at a press conference that, according to epidemiological investigations, the first suspected cases can be traced back to October 2025, with clinical symptoms of African swine fever appearing in some pig farms on the island. Samples were sent to a laboratory in Senegal for testing, confirming the presence of African swine fever. The government of Cape Verde issued a statement on the 6th, announcing measures to restrict the transport of pigs, enhance inter-island quarantine, implement sanitation and disinfection measures in farms, and strictly prohibit the slaughter, consumption, or sale of diseased pigs.
