Ignoring the threat of U.S. tariffs, Canada has implemented a new strategy for electric vehicles, and Cannock stated that he will cooperate with China.
On the 5th local time, Canadian Prime Minister Carney announced a new national electric vehicle strategy, stating that he will cooperate with China and fully utilize existing and new trade agreements, including a recent electric vehicle cooperation agreement with China, to promote large-scale investment in the field and encourage China to establish joint ventures in Canada, positioning Canada as "one of the global leaders in the electric vehicle sector". In January this year, Carney announced during his visit to China that Canada will allow 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles to enter the Canadian market with a 6.1% tariff discount. The US government had threatened to impose a 100% tariff on Canada if they reached an agreement with China, but Canada did not heed the US threat. The BBC reported that Canada's new electric vehicle strategy is a "plan to move away from the United States".
