Our country's scientists have discovered for the first time that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is an important natural source of hydrogen gas.

Finding and utilizing clean energy is an important path to promote energy transformation and tackle climate change. Among them, naturally occurring geological hydrogen, due to its potential of "zero carbon emissions, low cost", has become the focus of global energy technology innovation. On February 6, it was learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences that recently, a research team led by Liu Chuanzhou and Wu Fuyuan from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences discovered natural hydrogen sealed in micro inclusions in serpentinite on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for the first time. This discovery not only fills a research gap in China, but also points to a new geological direction for our country to find the next generation of clean energy sources. The related results have been published in international academic journals recently.
