The Hong Kong government published in the official gazette on the 6th day to abolish the provision requiring bus passengers to wear seat belts. Hong Kong implemented a new law on mandatory seat belt wearing on January 25 this year, sparking continuous controversy. The Hong Kong Transport and Logistics Bureau recently admitted that the legal provision has "technical deficiencies" and decided to suspend the policy, inviting opinions from all sectors. After improving the provision, they will consult the Legislative Council. A week later, the Hong Kong government published in the gazette on Friday to abolish Article 8D of the Road Traffic Regulations 2026 and the regulation requiring passengers to wear seat belts.
