On February 4th, Du Xueyi, a member of the Inspection Committee of the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Director of the Economic Crime Procuratorate, said during an interview with the Chief Procurator of the Supreme People's Procuratorate that the Supreme People's Procuratorate punishes smuggling crimes in accordance with the law, maintains national security, and serves a higher level of external opening. From January to November 2025, the national procuratorate has prosecuted a total of 3632 cases involving 8972 individuals of smuggling crimes, effectively safeguarding national security and interests. Du Xueyi stated that in 2026, the economic crime procuratorate will deeply implement the deployment requirements of the Fourth Plenary Session of the Twentieth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which proposed "expanding high-level external opening" and "safeguarding the multilateral trading system". The procuratorate will continue to punish smuggling crimes in accordance with the law, strengthen the supervision and guidance of major sensitive cases such as smuggling rare earths, enhance judicial cooperation in customs enforcement, serve the operation of the closed-off area of the Hainan Free Trade Port, and more effectively safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
