On February 3, local time, Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez stated at the World Government Summit that Spain plans to take measures to address the abuse of large social networking platforms and ensure the safety of the online environment. Sanchez announced that Spain will ban individuals under the age of 16 from accessing social networking platforms and require platforms to implement effective age verification systems. This measure has been included in the draft "Law for the Protection of Minors in the Online Environment" currently under consideration by the Congress, aligning with measures being taken by countries such as Portugal and France. Sanchez also proposed legal reforms to hold social media platform operators accountable for illegal activities occurring on their platforms, including the manipulation of algorithms and dissemination of illegal content being classified as illegal activities.
