Western Digital: existing customers have inquired about supply in 2030.
Western Digital's Chief Financial Officer Kris Sennesael stated in an interview, "The perception that HDD is a seasonal and cyclical industry is outdated. The company's current focus is on supplying ultra-large capacity HDDs to AI hyperscale cloud service providers, whose purchasing behavior no longer has characteristics of seasonal or cyclical fluctuations. The industry is now experiencing a flywheel effect, with increasing data usage driving more data creation, leading to an increased need for data storage. Due to Western Digital's few remaining ultra-large scale enterprise customers, the company has changed its business model to prioritize collaboration and long-term procurement agreements."
Sennesael pointed out that Western Digital's capacity until 2026 is already fully booked, with two contracts extending to 2027 and one contract extending to 2028. "We are also in ongoing discussions with other customers about the possibility of extending contracts to 2028 or 2029, and some are even asking about 2030. They want to ensure a secure supply for the coming years."
