The main accelerator device of the IP-SAFE project constructed by the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was successfully installed on February 2 in the Lanzhou New Area. This marks a major step forward in the construction of the world's first alpha medical isotope production demonstration device based on a superconducting linear accelerator, laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive completion of the IP-SAFE project. The full name of the IP-SAFE project is "Accelerator-based Medical Isotope Drug Development Platform" and is one of the national "14th Five-Year Plan" science and education infrastructure projects. The project relies on the technical accumulation and advantages of the Institute of Modern Physics in the fields of high-current superconducting linear accelerators, high-power targets, and isotope separation, aiming to achieve the large-scale production of the globally scarce medical alpha isotopes - actinium-225 and radium-223, and to effectively solve the long-term dependence on imports of such high-end medical isotopes in China.
