Orban claims that Hungary does not need to implement austerity measures after the April election.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Saturday that even if his party wins the April election, there is no need to implement austerity measures to control the budget deficit, and his right-wing Fidesz party will continue its core fiscal spending policies. Orban stated that Hungary's budget deficit has consistently exceeded government expectations in recent years, but will gradually decrease as the economic outlook improves. He emphasized, "We do not need austerity measures and we cannot deprive the people of their existing benefits." Orban also mentioned that if his party wins, policies such as the 3% discounted mortgage interest rate and the plan to exempt second-time mothers from personal income tax during the next government term will be maintained.
