"Islamic State" claims responsibility for attack on Niamey airport

The extremist organization Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack on the airport in the capital of Niger in a statement on January 30th. The Niger Ministry of Defense announced on the evening of the 29th that the Niamdiol international airport compound in the capital had been the target of a "terrorist attack" that day. The Niger defense and security forces counterattacked, killing at least 20 mercenaries and arresting 11 people.
