Samsung SDI's American subsidiary awarded battery supply contract, suspected to supply Tesla's energy storage system business.

Samsung SDI announced on Friday that its American subsidiary has won a battery supply contract. For commercial reasons, details of the agreement, including the amount, counterparty, and period, will be kept confidential and will not be disclosed further until January 2030. The deal is widely believed to be related to Tesla's energy storage business. Earlier, in November of last year, Samsung SDI had issued an announcement implying that the company had been in discussions with Tesla regarding supplying battery products. The announcement at that time was a response to requests from the South Korean stock exchange to explain related media reports.
