Recently, at the Jilin Provincial People's Congress, Jilin Provincial CPPCC member Li Ming suggested implementing a four and a half day work week at schools and enterprises during compulsory education to promote short weekend trips in the province. The topic quickly became a hot search. In fact, the "2.5 days off per week" or "4.5 day work week" has been mentioned in government documents in more and more places. For example, in May 2025, the Mianyang City Bureau of Commerce in Sichuan Province issued the "Work Plan for Mianyang City's Special Action to Stimulate Consumption in 2025", which mentioned implementing unused annual leave and paid leave policies, encouraging flexible leave arrangements for companies, promoting spousal leave sharing, and piloting a 4.5 day flexible work week, encouraging areas with conditions to implement a 2.5 day weekend model combining Friday afternoon with the weekend. In addition, provinces such as Hebei, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang have also issued relevant documents encouraging areas and units with conditions to implement 2.5 days off.
