Reporters learned from the Ministry of Water Resources that since the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the operational management level of national reservoirs has greatly improved, and the safety conditions of reservoirs have continued to improve. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China has operated large and medium-sized reservoirs for flood control and storage of 559.1 billion cubic meters of water, achieving no breaches in major rivers and dams, with no dams collapsing for 4 consecutive years, and the proportion of flood losses to the gross domestic product has decreased from an average of 0.28% during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period to 0.17%. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China has concentrated efforts on improving 17,998 dangerous reservoirs, strengthened reservoir capacity management, promoted reservoir dredging, strictly dealt with acts such as encroaching on reservoir capacity, and affecting flood prevention and safety, and effectively restored the function of the reservoirs. Currently, the Ministry of Water Resources is promoting the construction of safe dams, ecological dams, and intelligent dams, selecting 12 reservoirs to pilot the construction of intelligent dams, summarizing and exploring experiences, and playing a leading role in demonstration.
