On January 29th, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the spring transportation situation and work arrangements for 2026. Li Chunlin, Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that this year's Spring Festival travel presented new characteristics, with pre-holiday travel relatively dispersed and post-holiday travel relatively concentrated. In terms of travel methods, self-driving trips are in high demand, with returning home before traveling becoming a new trend. In order to effectively ensure the safety and smoothness of people's travel, the National Development and Reform Commission will work together with relevant departments to increase capacity, guide peak travel times, and provide service guarantees. In terms of increasing capacity, the railway will implement a new train schedule, with an expected peak flow of over 14,000 passenger trains on the busiest days, representing a 5.3% increase in seating capacity compared to the previous year. In the aviation sector, there will be an increase in flights to hub airports and popular tourist destinations, with an average of 19,400 flights per day, representing a 5% increase compared to the previous year. In terms of road transport, there will be increased capacity for popular tourist destinations and rural passenger transport, while water transport will strengthen capacity on key routes such as the Qiongzhou Strait between Hainan Province and Guangdong Province.
