The Governor General of Canada announced on the 28th that Governor General Mary Simon will visit Greenland and attend the opening ceremony of Canada's first consulate in the capital of Nuuk, Greenland. According to information released by the Governor General's Office, Simon's visit to Greenland will strengthen the close historical and cultural ties between Canada and Greenland. Simon said, "When countries work together, the Arctic will become stronger." Before visiting Greenland, Simon will visit Norway and Denmark. Simon is the first Indigenous Governor General in Canadian history, and has previously served as Canada's Ambassador to Denmark and Canada's Ambassador for Circumpolar Affairs.
