German Economics Minister Laiche stated that the government expects the German GDP to grow by about 1% to 1.5% in 2026 and 2027, primarily due to a significant increase in government spending in infrastructure and defense. Laiche said at an energy forum held in Berlin on Tuesday, "We all agree that the economic growth in the coming years will be largely driven by government spending." She emphasized that special debt financing funds for climate protection, infrastructure modernization, and strengthening of the armed forces will be the main sources of economic expansion.
