Mozambique extreme weather results in 131 deaths.
According to the latest data released by the Mozambique National Emergency Operations Center on the 24th, the current rainy season has resulted in more than 700,000 people affected in the country, affecting over 160,000 households, causing 131 deaths, 144 injuries, and 6 people missing. The data shows that heavy rainfall has resulted in 5585 houses being completely destroyed, tens of thousands of houses partially damaged, and over 83,000 houses flooded. A total of 242 health stations and 560 schools nationwide have been affected, with more than 140,000 hectares of farmland experiencing reduced production or complete crop failure. Mozambique's Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Fernando Rafael, stated that over 3,000 kilometers of roads nationwide are impassable due to flooding, including parts of the north-south main artery - the National Highway No. 1. In addition, the floods have damaged 7 bridges, and there have been interruptions in power supply and transportation in some areas.
