Guizhou Dafang County landslide results in 19 deaths and disappearances, investigation report announced.

The Natural Resources Department of Guizhou Province recently released the "Investigation and Evaluation Report on the May 22 Landslide Disaster in Dafang County". Around 7:50 am on May 22, 2025, a sudden landslide occurred in the tea forest area of Qingyang Village, Guowaxiang, Dafang County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, resulting in 19 deaths and missing persons and direct economic losses of 19.9176 million yuan. The investigation determined that the area where the Dafang County "522" landslide occurred was not a hidden danger point in the ledger, and the adverse terrain and slope structure were internal factors, while the rainfall was the triggering factor. Long-term infiltration of rainwater degraded the rock structure, combined with the impact of extreme heavy rainfall this time, ultimately leading to the disaster. The scale level was a large landslide, and the disaster level belonged to the category of a large-scale disaster.
