Recently, the Chinese Consulate General in Perth received requests for assistance from Chinese citizens who fell victim to telecommunications network fraud. The victims had a certain level of awareness about prevention, but they were still misled by an "enhanced version" of the scam and suffered economic losses. The fraudsters on the phone claimed to be a police officer from a certain public security bureau, stating that the victim was suspected of a crime and needed to cooperate with the investigation. They also suggested that if the victim did not believe them, they could go online to verify the authenticity by checking the official website and contact number of the public security bureau. The victim searched and found that the webpage displayed the contact number matching the number they received, so they believed it to be true and fell for the scam. In this case, the fraudsters briefly went online with a fake website while committing phone fraud, thereby misleading the victims.
