The UK House of Lords votes in support of a ban on social media for those under 16, the Stammer government feels increasing pressure.
Recently, there has been a heated debate among multiple parties in the UK on whether to follow Australia's example and implement a "social media ban for minors". On the 21st, the House of Lords in the UK passed a resolution demanding a change in current laws to strictly limit the use of social media, putting pressure on the Stammer government. According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation on the 22nd, the House of Lords held a vote on the 21st, with 261 votes in favor and 150 votes against, passing a resolution to amend the current Children and Schools Act in the UK to prohibit minors under the age of 16 from using social media. The amendment calls for the government to create a list of banned platforms within a year and urges relevant companies to establish effective age verification systems for these platforms. The amendment not only received strong support from the Conservative Party, but also from the Liberal Democrats and several independent individuals, with even two Labour members voting in favor. The UK Labour government has taken a strong stance against the amendment. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Stammer stated that they will not accept this amendment, stating that "amending the law is an extremely complex issue and requires evidence gathering and research first."
