New research shows that the melting of the Greenland ice sheet will cause a decrease in sea levels around it.
Global warming will lead to a rise in sea levels, but it will not be a uniform increase like filling a bathtub with water. A new study published in the journal Nature Communications on the 20th said that although the melting of the Greenland ice sheet will cause global sea levels to rise, the underlying land will rebound and rise due to the reduced mass of the ice sheet, which will actually result in a regional sea level decrease around Greenland.
