State Council Taiwan Affairs Office: The number of people traveling between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is expected to increase by 23.6% in 2025.
On January 21, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. Spokesperson Peng Qingen introduced that in 2025, despite the continued tightening measures by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, the number of cross-strait personnel exchanges increased significantly by 1.0445 million to reach 5.4495 million, a year-on-year increase of 23.6% compared to 2024. Among them, the number of Taiwan residents visiting the mainland increased by 868,800 to reach 4.8918 million, a 21.6% increase; while the number of mainland residents visiting Taiwan increased by 175,700 to reach 557,700, a 47.4% increase. It is worth mentioning that among the Taiwan residents visiting the mainland, there were 306,900 "first-time visitors," a 34.6% increase; and Taiwan's youth accounted for 1.684 million, representing 34.4%.
