On January 19, 2026, Toyota Motor Corporation officially announced that its total sales in the Chinese market for the year 2025 exceeded 1.78 million vehicles, seeing a year-on-year growth. Historical data shows that in 2024, Toyota's total sales in the Chinese market were 1.776 million vehicles, a decrease of 6.9% compared to the previous year. Prior to this, Nissan and Honda have also reported consecutive declines in their sales in China. In comparison, Toyota became the only Japanese car brand to achieve growth in China in 2025. Nissan, which has been struggling, recently announced its 2025 sales figures in China. Nissan's total accumulated sales in China for the year were approximately 653,000 vehicles, a 6.26% decrease compared to the previous year, marking nearly a 60% decrease from its peak in 2018. This marks the seventh consecutive year of declining sales for Nissan in China. Honda's situation is also not improving. The total accumulated sales of Honda's terminal vehicles in China for the year 2025 were 645,300 vehicles, a 24.28% decrease compared to the previous year. This marks the fifth consecutive year of declining sales for Honda in China since reaching a peak of 1.627 million vehicles in 2020, with sales shrinking by nearly one million vehicles compared to 2020. On January 14, the latest statistical data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that China's total car sales in 2025 reached 34.4 million vehicles. The combined sales of the top three Japanese car manufacturers in China totaled around 3.08 million vehicles, with a market share of less than 9%.
