Chongqing seeks opinions on spring and autumn breaks for primary and secondary schools: Starting from this spring, there will be no one-size-fits-all approach.

On January 19, the Education Commission of Chongqing Municipality released a public announcement soliciting opinions on the "Guidelines for Exploring the Implementation of Spring and Autumn Breaks in Primary and Middle Schools". The deadline for soliciting opinions is 6:00 pm on January 27, 2026. In the drafting of the explanatory document, the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission introduced that up to now, provinces such as Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guangdong, and Hubei have begun to explore and implement spring and autumn breaks in primary and middle schools, and have issued relevant implementation guidelines. Since last year, the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission has received a total of 34 inquiries and suggestions from the public, mayors' mailbox emails, and phone calls regarding the implementation of spring and autumn breaks. On November 13-14, 2025, Rongchang District took the lead in piloting the implementation of spring and autumn breaks in 71 compulsory education schools and 109 kindergartens in the entire district, and the social response was relatively stable. Building on the work experience of exploring and implementing spring and autumn breaks in primary and middle schools in other provinces and cities, the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission took the lead in drafting the "Guidelines for Exploring the Implementation of Spring and Autumn Breaks in Primary and Middle Schools." From October 30 to November 4, 2025, the Municipal Education Commission solicited opinions from education departments in various districts and counties, from November 27 to December 10, 2025, the Municipal Education Commission solicited opinions from 14 municipal-level departments, and after multiple rounds of soliciting opinions, discussions, and incorporating feedback, the draft was finalized, resulting in the "Guidelines for Exploring the Implementation of Spring and Autumn Breaks in Primary and Middle Schools".
