An American pharmaceutical company threatens to suspend drug supplies and demands price increases in Europe.
American pharmaceutical companies are increasing their efforts to raise drug prices in Europe. In some cases, if European lawmakers refuse to increase the prices, pharmaceutical companies even threaten to stop supplying new drugs to Europe. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla stated that a pricing agreement reached with President Trump last year has forced the company to raise drug prices overseas. Bourla told reporters at this week's J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, "When we do the math, it's either bring the U.S. price down to the level of France or stop supplying France. We choose to stop supplying France." "So they won't be able to get new drugs. This system will force us to not accept lower prices." Other pharmaceutical executives at the conference stated that they are quietly considering delaying or halting the release of drugs in Europe.
