The new Vice President of the European Central Bank was announced today.
Eurozone finance ministers will select the next Vice President of the European Central Bank on Monday, to replace the current Vice President, De Guindos, paving the way for the election of the President of the European Central Bank. Six candidates are vying for the position of second in command at the European Central Bank, with positions ranging from doves to moderates to hawks. Another candidate is the former Lithuanian Finance Minister Vilius apoka, whose monetary policy stance is unclear. It can be seen that these candidates all come from smaller countries within the Eurozone. This clears the way for a fierce competition among larger Eurozone countries for the position of President of the European Central Bank, which will become vacant in November 2027.
