Famous nuclear physicist Wei Baowen of our country passed away at the age of 91.

The journalist learned from the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that Comrade Wei Baowen, a member of the Communist Party of China and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a renowned nuclear physicist and accelerator physicist in China, a representative of the Eighth National People's Congress, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Eighth and Ninth Gansu Provincial People's Congress, passed away in Lanzhou at 19:25 on January 17, 2026, at the age of 91, after medical treatment was ineffective. Comrade Wei Baowen was the chief engineer of China's first heavy ion accelerator large-scale scientific device project, the former director of the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Accelerator National Laboratory, the former director of the Lanzhou Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the former director of the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
