In the early hours of the 17th local time, Mazlum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish-led "Syrian Democratic Forces," announced that they would begin withdrawing from the existing contact line in eastern Aleppo from 7 a.m. that day. Abdi said, "The contact line has been under attack for two days. We will redeploy our troops to the area east of the Euphrates River."
