Ministry of Commerce: Minister Wang Wentao meets with Canadian Minister of International Trade Seetu.
On January 15th, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with visiting Canadian Minister of International Trade Siedu in Beijing. The two sides had pragmatic and candid discussions on China-Canada economic and trade relations as well as the economic and trade issues of concern to each side. Li Chenggang, Deputy Minister and Chief Negotiator for International Trade, also participated in the meeting. Wang Wentao stated that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, the Chinese and Canadian economic and trade teams have recently conducted practical and efficient negotiations. Currently, the two sides have reached positive consensus on properly addressing each other's economic and trade concerns and further planning to expand the roadmap for economic and trade cooperation. Both sides should continue to play the main role of the China-Canada Joint Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation as the main channel to promote economic and trade cooperation and resolve economic and trade disputes, implement the results of economic and trade negotiations, expand new space for cooperation in various areas such as green and sustainable trade, e-commerce cooperation and trade promotion, facilitation of personnel exchange, and multilateral and regional economic and trade, and promote the continuous improvement and development of bilateral economic and trade relations, and help build a new type of strategic partnership between China and Canada. Siedu stated that Prime Minister Kani's visit to China is of great historical significance and sends a clear and positive signal for cooperation between the business communities of the two countries. Canada is willing to develop economic and trade relations with China in a pragmatic and constructive manner, and hopes to further strengthen the role of the Economic and Trade Joint Commission, effectively address each other's concerns through this mechanism, expand practical cooperation, and actively engage in cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, and advanced manufacturing.
