According to Fox News, the US State Department will temporarily halt all visa processing for 75 countries to strengthen scrutiny of applicants considered likely to become "public burdens". According to an internal State Department memo, consular officers will deny relevant visa applications based on existing laws while the State Department reevaluates visa screening and background check procedures. Affected countries include Somalia, Russia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, Thailand, Yemen, and others. This suspension will begin on January 21 and will continue indefinitely until the State Department completes the reevaluation of the visa processing procedures.
