In 2025, Hainan's green electricity trading exceeded 10 billion kilowatt-hours for the first time.
On January 14, it was learned from the Hainan Power Exchange Center that the trading volume of "green electricity + green certificates" in Hainan Province in 2025 reached 14.727 billion kilowatt-hours, exceeding 10 billion kilowatt-hours for the first time and growing 8.9 times compared to the trading volume of 1.488 billion kilowatt-hours in 2024. Green electricity, or simply green power, refers to electricity with near-zero carbon dioxide emissions in the production process, mainly sourced from renewable energy such as solar energy and wind energy. Green certificates serve as the only proof of renewable energy electricity consumption, with each certificate corresponding to 1000 kilowatt-hours of green electricity. The 10 billion kilowatt-hour green electricity trading volume achieved in 2025 is equivalent to a reduction of about 5.89 million tons of standard coal burning and a reduction of about 14.68 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
