A federal judge in the United States has ruled that Danish energy giant rsted Energy can continue to advance its offshore wind project in Rhode Island while challenging the government's latest shutdown order. This marks a key victory for the company in its prolonged tug-of-war with the Trump administration over renewable energy. Federal District Judge Royce C. Lamberth in Washington D.C. ruled on January 12 that the "Revolution Wind" project, aimed at providing power to hundreds of thousands of households in Rhode Island and Connecticut, would suffer "irreparable harm" if forced to shut down during the litigation period. The project construction is currently almost 90% complete. On December 22, 2025, the US Department of the Interior ordered a 90-day construction halt for five offshore wind projects on the East Coast citing "unspecified national security concerns". This order has sparked multiple legal challenges and is a testament to President Donald Trump's latest actions to hinder the development of the renewable energy industry while supporting fossil fuels.
