The General Administration of Customs released data on January 14th, showing that since the closure of the Hainan Free Trade Port on December 18, 2025, until January 10, 2026, the number of people who have benefited from duty-free shopping under customs supervision in the outlying islands of Hainan has reached 585,000, with a total amount of 38.9 billion yuan. This represents an increase of 32.4% and 49.6% respectively compared to the previous year. This means that on average, 24,000 people are shopping duty-free in Hainan every day, with a daily total spending amount of 1.6 billion yuan, both of which are higher than before the closure.
