The Nordic market is expected to open slightly higher, with IG predicting that the OMXS30 index will rise by 0.2% to around 2990 points. SEB economist Pia Fromlet said that the U.S. stock market rose on Monday, with gold and silver prices hitting record highs, following a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice against the Federal Reserve, raising questions about central bank independence. Fromlet said, "Former Federal Reserve directors and Treasury secretaries expressed their support for the independence of the Federal Reserve yesterday." Fromlet added that with speculation increasing about new elections, the Japanese stock market surged, which could strengthen the prime minister's mandate. U.S. stock index futures fell, while European stock index futures rose. December inflation data for the U.S. will be released later. The OMXS30 index closed at 2984.21 points, the OMXN40 index at 2649.60 points, and the OBX index at 1614.55 points.
