OpenAI and SoftBank announce a $1 billion investment in SB Energy.

On January 9th local time, OpenAI and SoftBank Group announced a joint investment of $1 billion in SB Energy as part of the "Stargate" program. OpenAI and SoftBank Group will each invest $500 million in SB Energy. OpenAI has also selected SB Energy to build and operate its previously announced 1.2GW data center in Milam County, Texas. SB Energy is currently developing multiple megawatt-scale data center campuses, with the first facilities already under construction and expected to be operational by 2026. The statement said that this investment is built on top of the $500 billion "Stargate" commitment announced at the White House in January last year.
