"Japanese rally against the restart of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant"
On the evening of December 26, some Japanese citizens held a protest rally in front of the Japanese Prime Minister's official residence. They expressed their opposition to the restart of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant, citing the aging of Japan's nuclear facilities, chaotic management, and inadequate supervision. Participants in the rally stated that they do not trust the Tokyo Electric Power Company, which is responsible for operating the plant. The issues from the Fukushima nuclear accident have not been resolved, and there are still tens of thousands of people in evacuation status. After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident caused by the "3.11" Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, all nuclear power plants in Japan were temporarily shut down. The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture was also closed in 2012, as it was revealed to have multiple safety flaws. On the 22nd of this month, the Niigata Prefectural Assembly approved the restart of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant.
