Guangdong Heshan Car Falling into River Incident: 5 Dead, Situation Report Released

Recently, a car fell into a river in Gulao Town, Heshan City, Guangdong. The incident occurred as follows: On the afternoon of December 13, 2025, Huang drove a car with 4 people on board into the territory of Gulao Town in Heshan City. They were driving along the West Jiang Dike road from the northwest to the southeast direction, and at around 17:27, they turned left and entered the construction site of the West Jiang Grand Bridge on the TJ01 section of the Nanhai-Xinhui Highway. There were warning signs at the entrance of the construction site, such as "Speed Limit 10 km" and "Construction site, no entry for non-workers", and speed bumps on both sides of the entrance. After entering the construction site, Huang drove about 120 meters forward, crashed through the railing on the right side of the bridge, and fell into the West Jiang River. After receiving the report, Heshan City quickly organized the Public Security, Traffic, Emergency, Maritime, Health, and Blue Sky Rescue Team and other professional rescue forces and equipment to carry out search and rescue work. At around 11:00 a.m. on December 14, the submerged vehicle was salvaged ashore, confirming that the 5 occupants had died. The cause of death, as determined by the police investigation, was consistent with drowning. Following the incident, the governments of Jiangmen City and Heshan City set up working groups promptly to conduct a comprehensive investigation and post-incident management work, and provide assistance to the families of the deceased in a timely manner. After investigation, it was ruled out that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or that the incident was triggered by personal disputes or extreme behavior, or was a result of a workplace accident. The incident was deemed an accident. Currently, the parties involved have reached an agreement with the families of the deceased on post-incident matters.
