Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib has been convicted and must serve 15 more years in prison.
The High Court of Malaysia ruled on the 26th that former Prime Minister Najib was guilty of multiple charges and sentenced to prison and fines. The court ruled that Najib, during his tenure as prime minister, used his power to illegally divert funds from a Malaysian development company into his personal account. He was found guilty of 4 counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering. Each of the 4 counts of abuse of power carries a 15-year prison sentence and a fine of around 114 billion ringgit; each of the 21 counts of money laundering carries a 5-year prison sentence. All sentences will be served concurrently. According to Malaysian media reports, Najib's defense lawyer has stated that they will appeal the verdict.
